Piccolo è bello? / Small is beautiful

XII raduno Registro Internazionale 6C2500
XII Meeting Registro Internazionale 6C2500, 12 June 2009

All of us fond of classic cars are now accustomed to clubs with hundrends if not thousands of members. Especially in Italy, a growth rate in line with 80's inflation (we are talking about Italy here certainly not Switzerland) that was inflating every year by 15-20-30% the number of members, was linked to the benefits obtainable through the club such as lower costs (insurances, taxes and others) which by the year end were a heavy burden for each member. The registro Alfa 6C was born small and remained as such. First due to the fact that the 6C2500 do not shine in every town fair like the Fiat 500 and second because it only promises its members a meeting with friends. More, not just friends but almost old school mates that meet every year even after many years finding again the complicity held back in school. This is the beauty of the Registro 6C 2500, it is like some thirty schoolmates going to a field trip. Every year (was it like this in school?) a new friend is present, another which moved out of town, however comes back to say goodbye to his friends. Even tough we meet once a year, or we skip a meeting, every time is like if we left each other at the beginning of the holiday season. Of course it would be nice that the number of friends would increase, that every time a new 6C2500 would join the group, but like I said 6C 2500 are not sold at the shopping center. To celebrate the summer meeting we choose an ambitious town: the little Portofino square, wonderful setting for wonderful cars. Friday 6 at 13:30, Fiera del mare in Genoa welcomed us with a breeze well known to people from the sea, a wind  really suitable for cars (and their drivers) like these.
Here we are like in school during the morning call: Giorgetti senior e junior (2500 cabrio Pininfarina e 2500 SS aerlux), ecc...
...and some “plant” which our heart welcomed with enthusiasm: Timo e x Jatinen with their GT1600Junior, Branderhost junior with RZ...
Everybody was ready for the transfer, escorted by the Police, in the heart of the city, actually in his best part, galleria Mazzini where we parked the cars blinded by the flashes like we were at the Croisette in Cannes. Of course “our actresses” at sixty year old are still fashionable whilst we would say that Brigitte Bardot wouldn't have too many pretenders...
After we stopped the engines the walking begins. A great guided tour in the old part of the city, to discover a hidden and reserved Genoa, like always “the Superb” well known for its refusal to show herself to the strangers
To follow, a stop at the Sea Museum and a dinner on the terrace above the port with Genoa at our feet. Saturday everybody ready to drive, arm out of the window along the seaside to arrive in Portofino. Is it possible to describe the world most famous little square? All is superfluos. Everybody knows Portofino but seeing it full of 6C2500 has been a surprise for everyone. A jewel within a Jewel. Just few meters away a mega yacht designed by Giugiaro which moved around our cars. Unfortunately for him none of our cars was his design. Or better, good for him as otherwise he would be much older now.
After a luch along the seaside, a highly intense moment arrived when our friend Daniela Romeo Maestri grandaughter of mr. Nicola surronded by her brother, her son, and grandchild delivered a souvenir plate to the registro. Starting again the engines (at low regime to not disturb the quite little square) we went back to Genoa by the same road although a more beautiful one was originally planned. The bad weather suggested however otherwise as we would have got lost among the clouds losing a great sight. After a sound shower and the annual general meeting (described in detail over the next pages) two vintage mini buses  took us for dinner at the Genoa Yacht club one of the oldest in the mediterranean sea. A great setting where our host Paolo Caffarena (Caffarena senior) made us to feel at home. Sunday is the time to say goodbye. Ready go towards the hill where at Villa Spinola marvellous residence, after we parked the car in the park, we said goodbye to Genoa with a last taste of its tipical dishes. Everything well therefore? Of course, but a great thank you to Emanuele Morteo e Claudio Giorgetti which worked on this itinerary for months. A further thank you to Stefano Centanni which conducted the dances which the usual savoir faire. The friends of the veteran Club Ligure were the real protagonists of this success, the president, Nicolo Caffarena to begin with followed by Mauro Milano, Giorgio Spina e Massimo Ottonello and the other friends which welcomed us with great friendship and sympathy. For the duration of the rally they helped and guided the schoolmates in their field trip

But it was easy we all know each other and there are few of us

Small is beautiful
